Overview

The mission of the Audiology Department is to prevent hearing loss, diagnose and evaluate hearing loss and hearing impairment, and to provide aural (re)habilitation to children and their families. An Audiologist evaluates the patient's hearing status, interprets diagnostic testing, explains results to parents and/or caregivers, dispenses hearing aids and/or assistive listening devices as necessary, and manages aural (re)habilitation. The Audiologist demonstrates competencies defined (*) in Principal Duties and Responsibilities.

Responsibilities
    *Make Clinical Decisions Based on National Clinical Standard
  • *Perform and Interpret Diagnostic Audiometric Evaluations using Age-Specific Criteria
  • *Perform and Interpret Admittance Testing
  • *Perform and Interpret Behavioral Observation/Visual Reinforcement Audiometry
  • *Perform and Interpret Newborn Hearing Screenings and Assessments
  • *Perform and Interpret Electrophysiological Testing
  • *Perform and Interpret Central Auditory Testing
  • *Conduct Hearing Aid Evaluations and Prescribe Appropriate Amplification
  • *Fit and Verification of Amplification Including Subjective and Objective Outcome Measures
  • *Assist/Perform Cochlear Implant Evaluation and Programming
  • *Counsel Patient/ Family based on the Results of Testing
  • *Work Collaboratively As Part of a Hearing Healthcare Team
  • *Makes Appropriate Referrals To Physicians, Speech Language Pathologists, Educational Specialists, And Others.
  • *Providing Training and Education About Hearing Loss, Hearing Impairment and Aural (Re)habilitation*Participate In Research Including Data Collection And Publication
  • *Educate Residents, Medical Students, Nurses and Audiology Students
  • *Supervise up to 2 Audiology Aides
Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Prefer that Audiologist have a doctorate of audiology (Au.D.) or equivalent (MA/MS with experience).
  • Must have a valid Ohio License in Audiology. Prefer that Audiologist hold either a Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech Language Hearing Association or American Board of Audiology certification from the American Academy of Audiology-must be pursuing at time of hire.
  • Previous Pediatric experience is preferred.
  • CPR certification must be received no later than 60 days post hire or 60 days post-expiration.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The following are required constantly: hearing, seeing, finger dexterity, sitting, standing, and walking. Pushing and lifting up to 25 pounds are required occasionally.
